Alexandria Housing Development Corporation (AHDC) has partnered with the City of Alexandria to provide a Residential Police Officer condominium unit at Alexandria Crossings.  AHDC owns and manages the unit which is occupied by a City of Alexandria Residential Police Officer.

The Alexandria Police Department's Residential Police Officer Program began in 1992 in partnership with the United States Department of Justice.  The purpose of this partnership is to assign a police officer to live and work within a specific targeted community and become a part of the community and culture.  This program contributed to the creation of a national model for Residential Policing Programs.  Alexandria currently funds twelve residential police positions.
